MEN AND ELECTRICAL TOOLS

In many jobs we use tools. Especially men use a lot of electrical tools, when they do such jobs as: plumber, carpenter, mechanic, builder or restorer. Men are those, who spend hours in the garage, mending things or trying to build small things, that would be needed in house or elsewhere. The world of tools is wide and complicated but at the same time a lot of safety and attention is needed, because it is not so easy to operate for example an impact drill than it is to operate an electric kettle in the kitchen.

Before you work with electric tools, read the manufacturer’s operating instructions carefully, because it can be dangerous to you. First, we cannot leave a power tool running while we are not using it. When you are finished with a tool, unplug it and put it away. Make sure the switch is turned off before unplugging or plugging in any power tool. This will avoid accidental start-ups. Imagine that you leave a grinder on and you go out. The consequences can be hard to deal with, and the losses can be expensive. One more thing is very important while using electrical tools; we need to keep them in a dry area. Dampness and electricity could combine to deliver a lethal electrical shock. If a tool is fitted with a grounded cord cap, it needs to be plugged into a grounded outlet. Some of those tools are easy in use like a screwdriver and do not need power to be used, but some like drills or pneumatic hammers need power and skilled service.

Furthermore, a lot of tools are so complicated in servicing that we do not know what for they are. Let’s think of a crowbar or jigs, their application is really difficult to explain. All tools can be divided into few categories: cutting and garden tools, hand tools and power tools. Cutting tools can be: a blade or a razor, whereas hand tools can be: a punch, a block plane or a chisel. In this essay, we focus on the third category, which is power tools. Power tools need the electricity to work and those are: a band saw, a sander, a chainsaw, a crusher, a drill, a jigsaw, a jointer, a crasher, a planer or a scroll saw. Those are tools which are powered by electricity or gasoline engine. Power tools are classified as either stationary or portable. Tools are used in many fields, not only at home for cutting, drilling or painting, but what is more, in industry and in construction.

The lathe is the oldest power tool, being known to the ancient Egyptians. After Industrial revolution people started to use machines in factories. The introduction of the electric motor in the end of the 19th century made possible to use the self-powered stationary and portable tools we know today.

Power tools made our lives easier; they are appreciated for their speed and accuracy. For example a table saw not only cuts faster than a hand saw. More comfortable is to use electric tools. Portable electric tools are recognized as the best tools ever. They can be corded or battery- charged. They are easy to use. The only thing we need is to connect them to the socket and to press the button. But at the same time such tools need a lot of attention and detailed service. Each of such machines has detailed manual instruction attached.

A lot of men use them at home or at their work. Such appliances make our lives easier. However, these simple tools can be hazardous and have the potential for causing severe injuries when used or maintained improperly. Special attention toward hand and power tool safety is necessary in order to reduce or eliminate these hazards.

We have to be aware that we cannot use those tools until we get the proper instruction. We need to start and stop the machine ourselves and we need to wait until the machine stops working. One more thing is to keep our hands at a safe distance, because hands are the exposed to accidents. We must be full aware that this is enormous and dangerous tool in our hands, never startle someone who is using a power tool because it may lead to accidents too.

If we obey those safety rules, we can see it is easy to use them after some training. Power tools are mainly operated by men, and are associated with physical works but no matter who operates them, this person needs to be really careful.
